Three pieces of advice for a more satisfied life

Sharing is caring!

I have three pieces of advice for young people who seek a more satisfied life. Always do your best. Be true to who you are. Don’t compare. These three pieces of advice will assist you as you walk or race through the days of your life. By sharing them, I hope to save you from unnecessary grief.

First, whatever you lay your hand to do, do your best. If others make fun, it may be because they are jealous of your good ethics or are just trying to bring you down to their level. Don’t stoop. God has a good plan for your life. Don’t cheat yourself by not doing your best. If you lower your standards or slack off, the one hurt most is you. Such behavior will leave regrets. Why bother heaping more of those up when life gives you enough grief through events beyond your control? Even when you don’t feel like it, do it because such a reputation will bless you because people will know your name means integrity, quality, and dependability. So please, always do your best.

Second, be true to who you are. Don’t pretend to be someone else. If you pretend to be what everyone else is, you will soon forget who you are. That will lead to a confused, unfulfilled, unhappy life. Nobody wants that. No, God made you with your own personality, your own set of interests, your own dreams. When you deny who you are, you lose out and disappoint yourself. If your particular group doesn’t share your passions, then seek out a different group. With over 7.6 billion people on the planet, I’m sure you can find some people who share your interests and outlook. Embrace your style. Practice and work until you meet your goals; then set new ones. Always keep learning. Be kind to others who are different because each of us is unique and deserves the same respect and love that you desire.

Third, don’t compare. This continues the second piece of advice. It is a good thing to be unique. Don’t let people fool you by insisting that you conform to their ideas, ways of doing things, ways of thinking. Their sense of humor or outlook isn’t the only perspective. If they don’t like it, let them go. Too bad for them. You deserve better. Comparing yourself to others will only lead to depression because there are always going to be people smarter, thinner, more attractive, funnier, more successful, wittier, etc. No one is perfect so let perfection go. So what if Susie Q looks like a model, runs 10 miles a day, eats no sugar, has a flawless complexion and super abs, works a professional job during the day and a second job at night to make more money to go more places to try new adventures. Did you ever think that all that striving may be an attempt to never be quiet because maybe Susie Q is burning herself out? Maybe it matters to her, but if it doesn’t matter to you, then so what. Nobody is a superwoman or a superman. Something has to give. Maybe Susie Q wishes she were more like you. Just live your life to your best ability. Eat right. Exercise, but let us not go overboard. Everything in moderation is a good rule of thumb. Maybe Susie Q is single, and you have a family, thus she has more time to spend on herself, but she may wish she had a family to serve and cuddle. No, don’t go wishing you were someone else. It insults you, and it insults the Creator who made you special on purpose.

You are here on purpose for a purpose. Do your best. Be yourself. Don’t compare. You’ll be happier. Maybe, just maybe, those watching you will imitate you. By doing so, the world can become more pleasant because people who are confident and happy with themselves are able to love others more. And the world just needs more loving, don’t you think?
